Energy Efficient Electric Water Heater Rebates
Who May Participate: Homebuilders or City of Tallahassee residential electric customers who purchase and install qualifying equipment.
Rebate Amounts: $100-$450 (see details below)
- Heat Pump Water Heater
$350 Rebate
ENERGY STAR® Certified, > 45 gallons
An ENERGY STAR® certified heat pump water heater, sometimes referred to as a hybrid heat pump water heater, uses heat from the surrounding air rather than generating heat with electric resistance to provide hot water, which uses up to 70% less electricity than a standard electric tank water heater. For a typical family of four, this can save about $550 per year and more than $5,600 over an estimated 13-year lifespan. While a heat pump water heater may have a higher upfront cost than a standard electric model, its energy savings result in a quicker return on investment.
- Wi-Fi Enabled Electric Tank Style Water Heater
$100 Rebate
Electric tank style > 45 gallons
Choose a Wi-Fi enabled electric water heater to gain greater control over your home's energy use. With smart connectivity, you can remotely monitor performance and adjust water temperature allowing you to save energy, lower utility costs, and enjoy hot water when you need it most.
- Solar Domestic Water Heater
$450 Rebate
Based on your home's roof orientation and structure, a solar thermosiphon water heater may be a good option for you. A solar water heating system uses roof-mounted solar collectors to absorb the sun's energy and transfer that heat to water stored in an insulated storage tank. In Tallahassee, a properly sized, south-facing system with good solar exposure can provide approximately 70 percent of a household's annual hot water needs. This rebate requires installation of a closed-loop, freeze-protected system designed to withstand local winter temperatures. Energy-efficiency loans are available in addition to rebates. These rebates are not available for pool heating systems.
